Another family residing in Bukit Timah became yet another victim of otters after her beloved Koi, which she had reared for over 20 years, were all wiped out by otters.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning (2 October) to a family living on a landed property at Road in the Bukit Timah area.

The female owner, Tham Yuen Ying said in an interview that after getting up that morning, she was stunned by the sight of the half-eaten carcasses of her beloved koi, Zaobao reported.

“We have more than 40 fish in our house. Only one survived, while the rest of the fishes were eaten cleanly, leaving behind only the heads and bones,” she said.

She said the murderer of her fishes had long since disappeared, but she highly suspects that the culprit is the otters nearby.

“Our family has been living here since the year 2000 and we have built two ponds which keep fishes such as koi, algae-eating fish, and albino sucker fish.”

According to her, the 22 koi in the ponds were worth a total of $20,000, and the most expensive koi cost $3,000. Although one of the fish was spared from the attack, unfortunately, it also suffered serious injuries.

“We really hope it survives,” she said.
