Woman sells house in Bedok Reservoir after being disturbed by neighbour’s noisy parrot

A woman has resorted to selling her house because she couldn’t stand being disturbed by a noisy parrot. She said she would rather move away to “escape misery”, reported Zaobao.

The incident took place at Block 620 Bedok Reservoir Road. The resident, known as Wu, complained that she was disturbed by her neighbour’s parrot almost every day. She was even woken by it in the middle of the night and early in the morning.

“I’ve lived here for 13 years and have always been comfortable. Until a year ago, the peacefulness was compromised,” she said.

According to Wu, she would often hear parrot chirping after her neighbour moved in next to her. She told the reporter that the parrot is caged up and placed along the corridor. From 7pm onwards, the neighbour who owns the parrot would start to whistle, and the parrot would also screech in response.

“Such situation would continue until 10pm, almost without stopping. On the weekends, the situation would get worse, causing sleepless nights. At first, for the sake of neighbourhood harmony, I held back and didn’t say anything, but I didn’t expect it to get worse,” she added

Wu explained that the neighbours would whistle occasionally to entertain the parrot at first but later became more frequent, causing disturbance even at the midnight.

“I’ve made complaints before, and then they moved the bird’s cage into the house. But the problem was made worse because they also teased the birds in the middle of the night, making it extremely unbearable. My children need to go to school, and I have to go to work. So inconsiderate!”

Being a light sleeper, Wu said she often couldn’t sleep all night. To the extent that she gradually “hates going home”.

“After going through the torture, I have decided to sell the house because I can’t stand not being able to go home and have a good rest after a long day of work. I managed to find a buyer, and now I can’t wait to get out of the misery in February next year.”

A reporter who visited the block said that a chirping sound can be heard as soon as one steps out of the elevator. When the reporter knocked on the door to ask questions, the male owner said that he would return the parrot and was reluctant to respond.
