Singaporean man got robbed in Kuala Lumpur after walking into a dark alley

A Singaporean young man was on holiday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when he was robbed by at least four men in an alley, reported Zaobao.

He recounted that he was out alone to buy late-night snacks when the robbery took place. He was beaten up by his attackers who also robbed him of his wallet containing his bank card, identification, and cash, as well as his phone.

The robbery occurred on 26 December last year near Kampung Bahru in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

When speaking to the reporter who contacted Fathsiam, the 22-year-old student recalled that he went to Kuala Lumpur for vacation with two friends. They rented an apartment near the place where the incident occurred. But because his friend was feeling unwell, he left the apartment alone at about 3am to a nearby convenience store to buy late-night snacks and he was robbed.

Robbed by at least 4 people

“I walked into a dimly lit alley and was about to turn right towards a chicken rice stall when someone hit me hard on the head from behind.”

He was hit hard on the head and began to feel dizzy. He originally thought there were only one or two people, but when he wanted to turn around and fight back, he found that four people were surrounding him. “I kicked hard and then I had to hold my head to protect myself.”

“I thought it would be the end of me at the time and I could only protect my head. I was beaten until I was unconscious, and when I woke up, the sky was already bright,” adding that he still felt frightened whenever he recalled what happened.

He revealed that when he woke up, his belongings including his mobile phone and wallet were all missing.

He said he shouldn’t take chances and walk alone in the alley late at night thinking he was familiar with the area.

“I have never encountered anything like this before, so even though I felt someone was watching me while I was walking around, I didn’t think too much about it at the time. I will never do anything like this again in the future,” he said.

He later took to his social media to share his unfortunate accident as he hoped it would serve as a reminder to others, not to make the same mistake that he did, and to remind everyone to be careful when going abroad. He also shared that a relative told him that the area was more dangerous, and the reason why he was targeted was perhaps because he was well-dressed.

“I had to quickly call the bank to cancel my card because there were four unauthorised transfers, totalling about $240,” he said.

No one was willing to offer help

On his way back to the apartment, Fathsiam allegedly had asked passersby for help, but no one offered their help.

He said that after gaining consciousness from the attack, he had to limp back to the apartment because he had no money or mobile phone with him, “I asked at least four or five passersby for help, but they all refused to help”.

He said that it might be because he looked very miserable at the time. He was not only wearing tattered pants and shoes but also had blood stains on his body, which was scary.

“I didn’t have my mobile phone or evidence, and I was a foreigner. I just wanted to go home and return to my safe place right away. I didn’t want to complicate things, so I didn’t call the police.”
