A man in his seventies, who suffered fractures in his left hand and hit after he was hit by an electric waste truck, has passed away. The 75-year-old man was hospitalized for 16 days after his surgery, but he unfortunately passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest. His family is appealing for witnesses of the accident to step forward, as well as for the company of the waste truck to give an explanation.

According to Zaobao, the accident took place last year on 23 December near Boon Lay Place at around 3pm.

When the reporter visited the wake of the deceased yesterday, his eldest daughter told the reporter that her father was on his way home when the accident happened. He was crossing the road at the zebra crossing in front of Boon Lay Shopping Centre to the bus stop when an electric waste truck hit him, causing his mobile phone and money to spill on the ground.

“My father fell to the ground and couldn’t move. Fortunately, a woman came to help. She contacted us, and called an ambulance,” she said.

The 48-year-old engineer recounted and said that her father’s injuries were quite serious. His left hand and hip were fractured, and he was scheduled for surgery the day after he was admitted to the hospital.

“A few days after the incident, we notified the town council. The company of the electric waste truck also called us the next day, saying that it had identified the worker responsible for the incident. They also requested for a copy of the report,” she told the reporter.

She added that her father suffered a cardiac arrest on the 4 January and his condition took a turn for the worse. After resuscitation, the doctor said there was nothing he could do to save him.

“My father suddenly developed a high fever yesterday and had a tube inserted into his body, making him susceptible to infection. To lessen his suffering, we had no choice but to extubate the tube and let him go,” she said.

After her father became critically ill, the man’s daughter once again sent an email to the town council. Her family also contacted the manager of the cleaning company to let the company know about her father’s condition. However, the company only said that they had taken the worker who was involved to the police and did not provide more information.

The family members of the deceased said that they hope that those who witnessed the accident can contact them and provide them with more details of the accident, “It has been so long, and we don’t know what really happened then. I hope someone is willing to come forward and take responsibility, give us an explanation, and give my father justice”.

Responding to queries, the police confirmed that they received a report, and the case is under investigation.
