About 500 people were evacuated from the Grand Hyatt hotel after a fire broke out at the hotel on 27 Mar.

Plumes of thick smoke could be seen billowing from the hotel.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the incident at around 11.20am. It was reported that the fire involved a kitchen stove and exhaust ducting in the Mezza9 restaurant.

The fire was extinguished by a water sprinkler before SCDF arrived at the scene.

Two water jets were used for the damping down operations, SCDF said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Despite the smell of smoke, guests were later let back into the hotel at about 12.50pm.

Why more and more fire incidents ah. Whatever you do, “suspect and inspect, but do not neglect.”
