To show support and raise awareness for mental health, President Halimah Yacob visited the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH)’s Creative SAY! Center for a special forum theatre performance on 25 Feb.

The center offers sports, outdoor and art activities to help spark conversations and promote mental well-being and to help prevent young people from developing mental health issues.

Spectators were allowed to interact with the performers and change the course of the play, allowing the audience to understand that one shouldn’t be bystanders. Instead, they should do something to make a difference.

The issue of mental health has to be tackled from many aspects, and the community plays an essential role in it, Madam Halimah pointed out.

“Art therapy, group therapy, and sports help in the healing process,” she said. Such programs need to be more accessible and affordable to the Singapore youths.

She also urged youths to touch on the topic of mental health even though the society is unfamiliar with the issue due to a lack of discussion on it.

One would not know if he/she is suffering from mental health issues. Everyone should play a part and look out for one another. Remember, healthy mind, health life!
