On 26 Feb, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) warned the public to not purchase or consume two products sold online as candies – Hickel and Solomon Island Soloco Traditional Candy.

Both candies were misleadingly marketed as “100% natural”, with exaggerated claims to “improve cardiovascular and kidney health, diabetic conditions, vitality, fertility and immunity”.

Very high levels of tadalafil, the potent medicinal ingredient used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, were detected in both products. “The amount of tadalafil was up to 30 times higher than the usual prescribed daily dose,” HSA said.

Consuming high level of tadalafil is dangerous and has serious adverse effects, including heart attack, stroke, low blood pressure and priapism (painful and exceedingly long erections) HSA added.

HSA advised members of the public to stop purchasing and consuming these products. All sellers and suppliers are ordered to stop selling them immediately.

Consumers are also advised to be cautious when purchasing any products online, especially those which promise miraculous effects or carry exaggerated claims.

Limpei warn you all ah, anyone caught supplying illegal health products may be jailed for up to three years or fined a maximum of $100,000, or both. So, my friends, please spread this news around so that no one will suffer.
