A 27-year-old man in India took out his shoes and socks on a bus while travelling towards new Delhi from the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh.

Prakash Kumar placed his socks near the aisle but the stench was so bad that other passengers asked him to put it in his bag or throw them out.

But he allegedly refused and this sparked a heated exchange in the bus. The bus had to stop a few times because of the chaos.

The passengers then forced the bus driver to drive to a police station in Una district of Himachal Pradesh.

The police chief said the man was arrested for causing public nuisance and later released on bail. According to the police, he also created a ruckus at the police station.

Mr Kumar insisted that his socks did not smell and claimed that other passengers quarreled with him for no reason.

In turn, he filed a complaint against other passengers and the bus crew for harassment.
