NTU undergrad thinks her SCDF boyfriend is holding a “low-class” job

Share

A post on NTU Confessions page has gone viral after an undergrad submitted a confession that degrades the profession of her boyfriend: An SCDF regular.

Basically, she is unhappy that her SCDF boyfriend holds a “low-class” job that should be “done by some people only”.

She has also expressed disappointment that her boyfriend cannot afford a posh wedding with “that kind of manual labour job”.

She had initially wanted to seek advice but got slammed by netizens instead.

Here’s the full text of her post:

“Dilemma. Huge one. My boyfriend of two years have decided to be an SCDF regular. Initially i was ok until my parents commented that its a dirty hands job done by certain people only. To me personally, army is still ok but police or scdf is low class jobs Done by “some people” only. I tried to convince my bf because he has a degree why should he do that kind of job. But all those pleas fell on death ears. I feel like i need to save my parents face too. And with that kind of manual labor job i can forget about having a posh wedding.

Whenever my friends asked me what kind of profession he is in, i would just lie and say that he is doing some business startup, no concrete plans yet.

Any advice?”

We here at Sure Boh Singapore believe that there is no need to lose sleep over this because this post could be fake for all we know.

But there are some positive takeaways from this rather insensible post. While many readers were provoked, we also got to hear what Singaporeans got to say about SCDF.

You know, nice things that we don’t always easily get to hear.

SCDF brothers speak up for each other

Firefighting is a noble job and it pays for your bills.

They sacrifice their lives when they enter a burning building.

Not everyone can handle heroes.

Singaporeans have mad respect for them

There are no low-class jobs. It’s a mindset issue.

SAF regular deeply respects his brothers and sisters from SCDF.

A job that saves lives is honourable, not low-class.

Firefighters run into a building on fire, not knowing if they will get out alive.

Serving is the highest calling.

Last but not least

Even if there is a chance that this is a real confession, it’s heartening to know that many Singaporeans deeply appreciate the peeps at SCDF for who they are and what they do.

We here at Sure Boh Singapore also feel the same way.
