On the eve of Chinese New Year, outside Sheng Siong supermarket, a four-year-old girl was allegedly tripped by a woman who had just left the supermarket, resulting in a broken left arm. The girl had to wear a cast for three months, and their family’s New Year’s Eve dinner was ruined.

In a Facebook post, the girl’s father said that his four-year-old daughter was injured last Thursday (8 February) at around 9.15pm outside Sheng Siong supermarket in Marsiling Drive, reported Zaobao.

When the reporter contacted him, her father known as Mr Huang said that the girl’s grandmother had taken his daughter to the supermarket for shopping when the accident happened. After making a payment, a woman who passed the two hastily, allegedly tripped his daughter, causing her to fall.

“The aisle is about the width of two adults’ shoulders. At that time, there was also another family passing by behind my mother, but that woman forcefully squeezed through. At that time, my mother didn’t hold onto my daughter, but she wasn’t running around either. She was just standing beside my mother, and the woman tripped my daughter, causing her to fall,” he said.

He said that his mother was extremely anxious when she saw her granddaughter fall, but the woman left the scene in less than a minute without caring at all.

Mr Huang added that his mother later took his daughter to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in a private hire vehicle. When he and his wife received the notification, they hurriedly went to the hospital to find out what happened.

As the family live in Johor Bahru, their daughter had no medical insurance in Singapore, so they had to get the doctor’s consent to transfer her to a private hospital in Johor Bahru to receive treatment. He mentioned that his daughter had surgery on the first day of Chinese New Year (10 January) and was discharged the next day. The accident had also ruined their family reunion dinner.
