PM Lee & NTUC give thanks to healthcare workers on Lunar New Year's Eve

On 9th February, while all of us were busy preparing for Tuan Yuan Fan (Reunion Dinner) at home, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, his wifey Mdm Ho Ching, along with leaders from the Labour Movement visited Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and Jurong Community Hospital (JCH) to engage with healthcare professionals and also distribute gift bags to them as a gesture of appreciation.

This is a yearly practice for them ah, last year PM Lee visited the public transport workers, this year it’s the healthcare workers.

Present at the visit also include NTUC President and Healthcare Services Employees’ Union (HSEU) President K Thanaletchimi, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Ng Chee Meng and HSEU union leaders, and management representatives from NTFGH and JCH.

During this visit, initiatives on how the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) can help improve wages, welfare, and work prospects for healthcare workers through the Company Training Committee (CTC) project were also shared.

In case you didn’t know, the CTC is an initiative by NTUC set up to support workers in upskilling and achieving better work prospects.

The CTC for the healthcare sector was established in August 2019 in partnership with the Healthcare Services Employees’ Union (HSEU) and has been instrumental in fostering collaboration between NTUC, the union, and NTFGH.

Together, they have worked on developing innovative projects aimed at leveraging technology to enhance work processes and increase productivity for nurses.

Speaking about these initiatives, NTUC Secretary-General Mr. Ng Chee Meng acknowledged the critical role of healthcare workers in providing care for Singaporeans.

He emphasized the importance of embracing technology to elevate their roles and mentioned the collaborative efforts of NTFGH and HSEU in enhancing workers’ skills for better wages, welfare, and work prospects.

The labour chief also noted the need for continuous skill development and highlighted the CTC’s role in enabling healthcare workers to stay relevant and contribute effectively.

Indeed, we have seen how these healthcare workers worked tirelessly, especially during the COVID-19 period. More should be done for them leh. If we cannot help them, the least we can do is be kind to them and appreciate them.

And for those who can use their power, help them fight for better Wages, Welfare, and Work Prospects lah!
