A 30-year-old man was charged in court on Thursday (4 January) after being arrested for injuring an 18-year-old victim over a staring incident in Orchard Central.

The incident took place on the morning of 1 January near Ark11 club in Orchard Central.

According to reports, the man who was suspected of stabbing several people with a sharp weapon fled the scene but was later arrested.

Based on preliminary investigations, the fight broke out because of a “staring incident” between the alleged attacker and an 18-year-old victim.

The police disclosed that the 30-year-old man also attacked four other men and a 27-year-old woman who had come across the commotion or had tried to intervene.

All six injured in the alleged attack received treatment in hospital and have since been discharged.

The attacker was identified using police cameras and extensive ground enquiries. He was arrested on 2 January.

The man, known as Adam Hambali Seddon, was handed one count on Thursday of hurting Carmelo Joshua Emilio Esmond D’Sylva with an “unknown instrument for stabbing or cutting”.

Reportedly, at the time, Adam was under a remission order for an unnamed previous offence.

After his arrest on Tuesday, he was sent to the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric evaluation.

The prosecutor asked for him to be remanded so he could be taken out for raids and to trace any accomplices. Adam asked if he could get bail, but was told it would be considered after remand was completed. He will return to court on 11 January.

If found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to seven years’ jail, fined, caned, or given any combination of these punishments.
