A drunk Ang Moh attacked a 62-year-old taxi driver by punching him and knocking him to the ground. According to Zaobao, the man continued to assault the taxi driver even after he had fallen to his knees. As a result, the driver suffered fractures to his face and fingers and required surgery.

However, the attacker, Edge Mark Alan (52 years old), managed to avoid caning punishment due to him turning 50 years old. He was sentenced to 13 months in prison for the intentional grievous bodily harm.

According to the charges, the incident occurred in 2020 at around 11pm on 12 July at a taxi stand along Holland Road. The victim, Tan Jian Xing, was a 62-year-old taxi driver, and the Ang Moh was intoxicated at the time.

Initially, the Ang Moh pleaded not guilty, but the judge delivered an oral verdict yesterday after the trial. It was revealed in court that the attack lasted approximately 5 minutes and was captured on video by a witness. Although the video was only 7 seconds long, it showed the taxi driver was already on his knees, but the Ang Moh continued to assault him.

A woman who was present at the scene immediately called the police for help. The taxi uncle suffered fractures in his right eye socket and right pinky finger as a result of the Ang Moh’s attack.

During the prosecution’s statements, it was argued that the Ang Moh should be sentenced to 15 to 18 months in prison and receive 6 strokes of the cane. However, because the Ang Moh had just turned 50 years old recently, an additional 3 months of imprisonment instead of caning was requested.

The judge ultimately decided to sentence the defendant to 10 months in prison, with an additional 3 months to replace the caning.
