Senior Minister of State for Defence Dr Maliki Osman revealed on Monday, September 10, that 14% of AWOL cases were related to financial difficulties (10 September). AWOL refers to being absent from service without official reason.
Online reaction to Dr Osman’s comments was swift, with netizens blaming the situation on NSF allowance.
The Government reviews the NSF allowance periodically, last adjustment was in 2015 when MINDEF increased the sum by $80 across the board.
