It’s not certain if there was a family feud that led to all these drama but here’s the story.

A 79-year-old elderly woman called the police after she realised that her newlywed grandson literally cleared out her entire flat after moving out.

The grandson changed the locks for the house and removed the electrical sockets, lights, heater, cabinets and air-conditioning units before moving out of the flat.

He also cut off the water and power.

The condition is so terrible that the contractor said the walls have to be knocked down if the family wishes to repair the wiring of the unit.

The elderly woman rented out her flat to her newlywed grandson for about a year because the grandson claimed that he and his wife could not get a BTO flat.

They then asked his grandmother if they could stay in her 4-room flat at Block 79E Toa Payoh Central.

There was no formal contract and they would pay their grandmother $500 for rent.

According to the elderly woman’s eldest grandson, Mr Liang Ruilin, the $500 rent was largely a symbolic gesture and they hardly visited the grandmother.

The grandmother then instructed Mr Liang Ruilin’s father, Mr Liang Xuzhen, 59, to paste a notice outside her flat, claiming that they would need to move out if the newlyweds did not wish to pay $3000 rent each month.

According to Mr Liang Ruilin, the grandmother rented out her Toa Payoh flat to her youngest son who lived there for about nine years.

She herself stayed and worked at a Whampoa Drive shophouse which was later taken over by Mr Liang Ruilin’s aunt (the newlywed grandson’s mother).

The grandmother paid her daughter $2,000 every month for rent.

According to the elderly woman, she worked, scrimped and saved her whole life before finally affording her HDB flat.

A police report has been lodged.
