Jay Chou released his latest single titled, “Waiting for You (等你下课)” on his 39th birthday.
The mandopop king wrote in a Facebook post that this song is meant as a gift for himself and his beloved fans.
On the surface, the song tells a story of how a teenage boy continues to think about his high school crush years after graduation.
However, several fans pointed out that the lyrics are not as simple as it looks and people need to read between the lines to understand what Jay Chou really meant.
It’s actually a sad song, describing how his fans prefer his old songs and maybe he shouldn’t be in their world.

This netizen said Jay Chou wrote this love letter to his fans, referring to his older fans as his “high school crush”.
He has been writing a few love letters such as “Sunny Day (晴天)” (an old love song) and “Love Confession (告白氣球)” (a more recent love song).
Another netizen said Jay Chou released his 2011 album, hoping that it would be a breakthrough album because the songs took on a completely different style from his previous albums. But he realised his fans were greatly disappointed.
He used a metaphor to describe this, saying that he only realised his first love doesn’t eat breakfast when he started to learn to make egg biscuits.
This netizen said Jay Chou wanted to know what his fans were listening to. He was very sincere when singing his songs but he was not able to enter the hearts of his fans. His fans finally stopped to listen when he released his newer love song titled, “Love Confession”.
The lyrics are even more sentimental towards the end of song as Jay Chou reminded his fans to remember the love letters that he had written for them.
He hinted that maybe his fans will realise one day that there’s someone who is silently accompanying them by their side.
