Drama brewing leh. Hearsay this security agency is calling out NTUC Secretary General Ng Chee Meng for calling out their “egregious” behavior in unfairly treating more than 300 security officers!

On 7th February, NTUC’s Secretary General, Mr Ng Chee Meng took to Facebook to condemn a case of “egregious behaviour” where a security agency carried out a “forced demotion” for around 300 officers, but backed down after the Union of Security Employees (USE) intervened. He said the company then extended the officers’ working hours to try to “reset” their wages and employment terms.

In his post, he is damn kind already, never even name and shame the company. Then hor, this company also very cute, ownself admit is them BUT they said they had to right-size its operations because of “insufficient demand for senior security officers”. Semo??

This Li Xiaowen, the deputy managing director at APRO, then shared with media that the company carried out a revision exercise with plans to be compliant with progressive wage model (PWM) wages for 2024, to update the employment terms and to “address our business needs by right-sizing” the rank structure. 98% of 1,145 members of its security guard force actually received a salary increase! Sounds good leh. Then this Mr Li even showed CNA an email in which a representative from USE said “we are supportive on your offer to the affected employees”.

Wah, why so drama! They say the union supported them?? Wait. Very quickly, the USE responded saying that “any suggestion of the union having agreed to unfair conditions is inaccurate. This is precisely why the case was brought to the Manpower Ministry for conciliation.”

USE also promised to share more details about this case at a more appropriate juncture and that they “stand by their actions thus far” because the rights of every security officer matter.

Meanwhile netizens also took to Facebook to show concern for the group of security officers and condemn the company.

Some also showed appreciation to NTUC and USE for looking out for security officers.

Let’s wait and see how this story develops. But really, this group of workers really don’t have it easy, if really suka suka demote people. Jin cek ark leh!
