GE2025: 32-Year-Old Restaurant Boss Starting Own Political Party to Fight in East Coast GRC!

GE2025: 32-Year-Old Restaurant Boss Starting Own Political Party to Fight in East Coast GRC!

Eh East Coast voters, ready your popcorn already anot? Got a new political party called Most Valuable Party (MVP) in Singapore!

Got one young chap, 32-year-old restaurant owner Chia Yun Kai, say he buay tahan liao and wanted to form his own party.

According to AsiaOne, his young boy stayed in Bedok under East Coast GRC for many years, and he was not happy that the promises made by his MP, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat,  were “unfulfilled”. Specifically pointing to the East Coast plan that was announced during GE2020, Chia said that he was disappointed by the delay in projects such as new community spaces and playgrounds.

Hence, he decided to create his own political party called the Most Valuable Party (MVP) to contest East Coast GRC in the next General Election. Sibeh Garang!

Not a Party yet

However, right now, MVP is still not yet listed in the Registry of Societies by the Ministry of Home Affairs, a requirement for political parties with 10 or more members. The social media also very fresh. Instagram only got 80 followers, Facebook public group also like kopi shop just opened, one member nia.

But Chia says, it’s okay one. He is now looking for volunteers and candidates to form a 5-person team to take on East Coast GRC. He wants people who are sincere, steady, and willing to stand up for Singaporeans.

He also added that if he managed to put out a team to contest East Coast GRC, he would draw inspiration from another opposition party like Red Dot United, whose first election outing was in 2020 when it was just three weeks old. Something like monkey see monkey do bah.

Wanted to join WP but got turned off by drama

Last time, Chia actually did think of joining the Workers’ Party (WP) one. But after watching the party kena hit by scandal after scandal, he said he lost confidence in WP liao. From the Raeesah Khan saga (where the former WP MP Raeesah lied in Parliament and it triggered a whole investigation) to the Nicole Seah and Leon Perera affair video leak, Chia says WP’s image is not what it used to be.

So in the end, he decides to form his own party instead.

He even tried to contact WP to avoid a 3-corner fight in East Coast, but until now WP never replied.

So if GE2025 really become PAP vs WP vs MVP, he is also okay. He say he is not scared. Jin brave ah ah boy.

MVP want to help Singaporeans save money

Chia say his party will focus on:

  • Lowering the cost of essential goods and healthcare

  • Creating better job opportunities for Singaporeans

  • Putting citizens’ interests first

He hasn’t revealed his full policy details yet, but he says he will share more when the general election is nearer.

What political watchers say?

Got some political observers say MVP like that maybe hard to take seriously lah. Party still so small, no presence, and hard to build trust so fast. But hor, in politics, anything can happen one.

So for now, East Coast residents, keep your eyes open!
