As the General Election approaches, more and more parties are starting to introduce new candidates and also their plans. This time is the Sengkang GRC unveiling their plans.
PPP GE2025 Manifesto: Make Singapore Home Again… or Make Singaporeans Blur Again?
On Saturday (April 5), Workers’ Party (WP) MPs from Sengkang GRC unveiled a five-year development plan for the Sengkang Town Council, which includes projects such as a new dog park, butterfly garden, rooftop gardens, and the upgrading of the Sengkang Sculpture Park.
Also present at the event was new WP face Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, who interacted with residents alongside the current MPs.
35-year-old Muhaimin has been actively involved in events across Sengkang GRC since last year and currently serves as a Senior Business Manager at the Aljunied–Hougang Town Council.
Since the resignation of Raeesah Khan in 2021 over her lie in Parliament, one seat in the four-member Sengkang GRC has remained vacant. With Abdul Muhaimin now frequently appearing with the WP MPs, signs point to him possibly filling that gap in the party’s line-up for the next General Election.
On Saturday, He Ting Ru, Louis Chua, and Jamus Lim visited the Sengkang Sculpture Park and spoke to the media about the Town Council’s upcoming projects. Abdul Muhaimin was also present but declined media interviews, choosing instead to focus on engaging with residents.
According to He Ting Ru, each region within Sengkang GRC will benefit from at least one key development project. For example:
-
Sengkang Sculpture Park in Compassvale will be refurbished.
-
Anchorvale’s multi-purpose hall rooftop will feature a butterfly garden and hydroponic farm.
-
Buangkok will see a new rooftop vegetable garden.
-
Rivervale will get a new dog park.
Louis Chua said these plans were based on feedback from residents over the past four to five years.
“We want to take residents’ input seriously and share with them the kinds of improvements they hope to see in Sengkang. We’ll work with relevant agencies to try and make these projects happen,” he said.
When asked whether the current three MPs plan to remain in Sengkang for the next election, the team said they would share more details at the appropriate time.
Louis Chua added, “Regardless of which party wins Sengkang in the next election, we believe the Town Council will continue to function smoothly — just like how we carried on existing projects after taking over in 2020.”
