Can the Workers’ Party REALLY be the alternative for Singapore?

If the Workers’ Party cannot settle its own leadership mess, how can they be an effective alternative voice for Singaporeans?

If the Workers’ Party cannot settle its own leadership mess, can they really be an effective alternative voice for Singaporeans?

When you take the aeroplane, you remember what the safety video says? It says: “Secure your mask first before helping others”.

Why leh?

Because if you cannot even breathe properly, how are you going to help the person next to you?

The same logic applies to politics.

If your own party leadership is in limbo, internal struggle not resolved, accountability questions still hanging, then how exactly are you going to contribute effectively at the national level?

Same same as if your own house is in a mess, your own family members quarrelling until upside down, every day arguing about who must take responsibility, who should do what, who should step aside or not… like that you still got time to go next door and advise people how to manage their family or not? Sure boh? Lao niang is confirm cannot one, because lao niang got 羞耻心 and got sense of shame.

This is exactly what is happening to the Workers’ Party (WP) now.

In case you have been living under a rock, that is ok. Because you have not missed out much.

Because the WP still haven’t taken any action within the party yet, even after the whole Parliament voted for Pritam Singh to be removed as the leader of the Opposition. Is like those Taiwanese 乡土剧 (rural dramas), you missed a few episodes, never mind one. You can still watch and understand because the story plot hardly moved.

And Pritam Singh is STILL sitting very firmly on the WP secretary-general throne, maciam Dua Pek Gong like that.

Over 20 WP cadres asking for accountability

This is despite calls from party cadres asking for a Special Cadre Members’ Conference.

And hor, this is not just one or two little cats grumbling quietly ok. It is a group of over 20 people within WP openly asking for accountability after Pritam Singh was convicted for lying to a parliamentary committee.

Even one old bird, WP’s own former chairman Dr Tan Bin Seng, has publicly said there must be accountability and asked WP to mai tu liao, better faster hold this special conference instead of waiting for internal disciplinary proceedings of Pritam Singh to be concluded.

When an old bird speaks up, you know this one is not small matter liao. Who know? Maybe is Mr Low Thia Kiang’s way of giving Pritam Singh 给台阶下, so he ask Dr Tan to say something 🫢

Then who knows Pritam Singh didn’t get the memo. Or he just ti gong ti siao (act blur).

Instead of stepping forward to settle things decisively, they maciam sitting down there waiting for the problem to solve itself, or are they just waiting for the problem to POOF become Coco Crunch?

Disciplinary panel or just a wayang panel?

Although yes lah, the current party’s central executive committee (CEC) appointed four members to sit on WP disciplinary panel to look into Pritam Singh’s conduct, but don’t joke leh!!! This panel includes members of Parliament He Ting Ru and Jamus Lim, who voted against the motion of removing Pritam Singh as the leader of opposition leh. How impartial will this so-called disciplinary panel be leh??? Can don’t like that insult Singaporeans’ IQ? You think we all stupid ah???

Lao niang ask you lah. If you already show which side you support, then later you go and “review” or “manage” the issue, people will naturally question whether this is independent or not, right?

Is this a real accountability process? Or is this another wayang process to calm the ground first?

What about Sylvia Lim?

Sylvia Lim is also in leadership, and she also has issues that are not fully resolved yet wor.

Both Sylvia Lim and Pritam Singh are still holding top positions.

Yet, when Leon Perera and Nicole Seah’s affair surfaced after their touch touch hands video went viral, the party CEC was quick to decide what should be done to them.

Now you have two senior leaders facing questions, suddenly lost the ability to decide ah? Is it the party sibeh double standard, so they got two sets of rules?

If cannot settle own house, how to be an effective alternative?

And then the next question is, if own leadership matters still hanging in the air, cannot decide, cannot solve, then how to convince voters that the party is stable, united and ready for bigger responsibilities?

WP ownself like to pride itself as the alternative voice, to be the check and balance in Parliament for the ruling Gahmen. But if your own house is so messy and the party cannot settle its leadership issues properly and transparently, how to convince Singaporeans that you can represent the people at the national level leh?

If WP wants to be seen as the effective alternative, then internal discipline and accountability must be even stronger than the ruling party, no meh?

How to ask voters to take risk on you when your own house is still shaking?
