The Red Dot United (RDU) team conducted a walkabout in the Jalan Kayu area on Saturday night (March 29).

Jalan Kayu grassroots leader Kala Manickam interacted with residents and distributed flyers, marking her second consecutive weekend of outreach in the Jalan Kayu area.

According to earlier reports, when asked if Kala Manickam would be contesting in Jalan Kayu SMC, RDU Secretary-General Ravi Philemon said there was still some time before Nomination Day and Polling Day, so they would not announce candidates at this point.

According to 8World, Kala Manickam, along with six RDU volunteers, first had their iftar meal before visiting nearby coffee shops, hawker centres, and restaurants to interact with residents and hand out flyers.

One of the volunteers was former lawyer M Ravi. Another volunteer was Mohamed Fazli Talip, a former member of the National Solidarity Party (NSP) who joined RDU in 2020.

Last Sunday (March 23), Fazli also accompanied RDU’s Jurong Central grassroots leader, Emily Woo, during her walkabout in the area. He declined to comment on whether he would be contesting in the upcoming General Election.

If you find the area Kala Manickam visited looking very familiar, that’s because it’s the exact same restaurant where a BMW lost control and crashed onto the pavement earlier that morning.

A man who was dining at the restaurant got hit by one of the BMW’s tyres which flew off and was taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Ng Chee Meng, Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) also visited Sengkang West, which has been carved out as Jalan Kayu SMC, last night (March 28), sparking speculation about whether he will be contesting in that area.
