No chance and no more excuses for employers to geh siao and anyhowly pay their local workers liao, especially those companies with any workers in a sector or occupation with the progressive wage model (PWM)!
Because the Gahmen is going to officially launch the new Progressive Wage Mark accreditation scheme from September this year!
In case you are not familiar with what this PWM is hor, PWM is a system introduced by NTUC in 2012 to lift the wages of low-income earners.
It was first made mandatory for the cleaning sector in 2015, then later for the security and landscape sector in 2016, and lift and escalator maintenance workers in 2018.
What is Progressive Wage (PW) Mark?
You know like how you see Michelin Sticker you know that the food confirm must be sibei good one? This Progressive Wage (PW) Mark is the same lor.
This PWM Mark will be given to businesses who voluntarily pay their workers progressive wages so that consumers will know that such companies are responsible towkays who pay all their workers decent wages.
This PW Mark is not new leh. Earlier in the Budget statement this year, Gahmen already say liao, starting from March next year, on top of following the PWM and pay their workers according to the PWM, companies with workers in the sectors with PWM will also now need to have this Progressive Wage Mark if they want to win any Gahmen contracts.
Because Gahmen must set the example first mah, tio bo?
How to get this Progressive Wage (PW) Mark leh?
In addition to following the PWM and pay their workers according to the PWM, companies with workers in the sectors with PWM will now die-die have to pay all their local workers – Singaporeans and permanent residents – at least the local qualifying salary of $1,400 if they got hire foreign workers. If not the Singapore Business Federation will go after them!
Senior Minister of State Zaqy Mohamad said that this move is to strengthen our social compact, and if we want to help those at the bottom, like our low-wage workers, to fasterly move up, all of us as consumers also must play our role and don’t be so kiam kanna. Ok the kiam kanna is lao niang say one.
Tia gong this move for companies to pay all their local workers at least the local qualifying salary of $1,400 will cover at least 266,000 workers, or 94% of full-time lower-wage local workers. IS A LOT OF WORKERS SIA.
Other than this PW mark hor, the Gahmen is also going to expand the PWM to more sectors and occupations, so that more workers can benefit from this scheme that helps to increase wages of workers through upgrading skills and improving productivity.
