Today, lao niang want to tell you an inspiring story which I just read. Is about this 57-year-old Uncle who managed to find a job after a few failures.

job

Uncle Richard used to be a warehouse manager in a logistic company. But then COVID-19 happened, and everything took a turn for the worse.

Because of COVID-19, his department not enough manpower to meet deadlines never mind, the most jia lat thing is still got people in his company want to play office politics wor. Sibei stress.

So, in the end, Uncle Richard decided to throw letter and start to look for other jobs. But aiyo, this kind of situation, find job where got so easy sia.

As expected lor, he tried applying to be a forklift driver with a few companies, but then no one call him back. He also tried to apply for food packing positions, but also no response.

Uncle Richard think maybe is because of his age. He is 57-year-old liao, so harder for him to find another job.

He was jobless for a few months but he heng hor, he got some savings to last him for that few months while he look for another job. But still, how long can savings last right? He still need to have a job and income, if not really very hard to survive one lah.

Some more he still need to pay for rent – if not he will become homeless. He also need to pay his ex-wife maintenance payments – if not he will kena charge in court and go squat in jail. He got two kids that he needs to support also.

Aiya, all in all, he is stuck in a very shitty situation lah. Very shitty until he almost wanted to kiss his life goodbye lei. Very serious sia.

He very desperate liao, he decided to look for help – he went to e2i.

He met a career coach who helped him plan a short-term plan to find a job. She also lends him a listening ear and listened to his problem.

Besides lending him a listening ear, the career coach also recommended him a financial helpline where he could get support to pay his rent.

The most important point is the career coach taught him one secret 绝招 (tip) on how to ace his interviews which helped him landed in a job eventually.

The advice is, during interview, mai gei kiang, don’t go and hao lian about your experience because you may appear to be overqualified to the companies. Sometimes act blur really will live longer.

Uncle Richard followed the advice because he really desperate for a job liao.

In fact, he just want a job, so any job he also don’t mind liao. Simi pay cut, not managerial position, he ham ba lang also don’t mind and don’t care liao. Because he JUST WANTS A JOB.

In the end, he managed to get a job as operations executive in a warehousing and logistics firm, which is quite similar to what he was doing previously lah. And just 5 days into his job, his new employer see he not bad still give him $500 pay rise lei. Not bad hor.

So moral of the story is hor, there is always help out there, don’t 想不开 ok.

And to those who are also in the same boat as Uncle Richard,

  1. Don’t need paiseh to look for help – nobody will judge you one lah
  2. Don’t gei kiang and act yi ge smart, sometimes be humble a bit won’t kill you
  3. DON’T GIVE UP ON HOPE – JIAYOU!

Nah, don’t say neh share hor. If you also want to meet 漂亮 chiobu career coach, you can go here, here, here or here.
