A 21-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (7 March 2018) after a pinhole camera disguised as a hook was found in a handicapped toilet in NTU’s School of Humanities and School of Social Sciences earlier this month.

The camera was reportedly found by a  58-year-old female printing service contractor and a Police report was made.

In a statement on Thursday by the Singapore Police Force, the man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a public nuisance case.

A laptop, a mobile phone and two pinhole cameras were seized as case exhibits.

The camera was supposedly hidden inside a plastic looking hook that was mounted on the side of the door facing the toilet bowl. There was also a memory card found in the camera.

She noticed that the hook, which had an air freshener pack hanging on it, was placed in a relatively low position, just above the air vents on the door and at the same level as the toilet bowl.

She also said the hook was previously not in the toilet. She thought it was unusual and asked someone to call the police.

Police Officer from the Jurong Police Division conducted extensive probes and enquiries before they established the man’s identity, the statement said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is involved in other similar cases.

Investigations against the man are ongoing.

If found guilty of public nuisance, the man faces a maximum fine of $1,000.

It’s unclear, at this point in time, if there were any pictures of videos stored on the memory card found in the camera. If convicted of insulting the modesty of a woman, he may be punished with a jail term of up to one year, a fine, or both.
