An engineer was jailed eight weeks on Monday (15 May, 2017) for taking upskirt videos of three women at an NTUC Fairprice supermarket in Toa Payoh HDB Hub.

Darren Ng Jun Yang, 26, pleaded guilty to three charges of insulting the modesty of the women. Four other similar charges were taken into consideration.

Investigations revealed that Darren Ng was shopping around the NTUC FairPrice supermarket at 7.14pm that day when he saw a woman wearing a white top and floral skirt at the poultry section. He then thought of taking an upskirt video of her.

He switched on the video recording mode of his Apple iPhone 5, placed the phone between her inner thighs from behind and captured a video of her inner thighs and panties.

About half an hour later, while browsing in the chips section, he saw another woman wearing a white printed skirt. He then approached her and squatted beside her. He placed his phone between her inner thighs and intruded upon her privacy.

At 8.16pm, he was in the same section when he took an upskirt video of a woman wearing a pink skirt and black top.

After this recording, Darren Ng went to pay for his items and was confronted by a man near the lift of the supermarket. The man claimed that he saw Darren Ng taking upskirt videos and informed a security guard of the supermarket.

Darren Ng’s lawyer T.M. Sinnadurai said his client was experiencing stress. He successfully asked the court to defer sentence to May 29 for Darren Ng to sort out his work matters.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Houston Johannus, however, asked for four weeks per charge, saying that Ng had used technology for his perverse gains.

Darren Ng could have been jailed or up to a year and/or fined on each charge.
