Family of Sengkang double-death victim Xu Na found with help from Chinese Embassy

Authorities have located the family of Xu Na, the 47-year-old woman who was found dead with her father in their Sengkang flat.

The Chinese Embassy in Singapore helped to get in touch with her relatives, and it is understood that arrangements are now being made for her family to come to Singapore to handle the body claim process.

The tragic case happened on October 6 at Block 324D Sengkang East Way, where both father and daughter were found dead at home. Following the discovery, the Singapore Police Force issued a public appeal to locate Xu Na’s family members.

On Thursday (October 16), police confirmed in an update that Xu Na’s relatives have been found.

According to one of her former university classmates, Mr Xu, Xu Na’s family was originally from northeastern China. Her parents later migrated to Singapore, and she only came here during her secondary school years to study.

After news of her death spread among her classmates, many of them came together to try to contact her family. Some reached out to the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and learned that her registered hometown was in Huanggu District, Shenyang City. They then tried to contact the local public security authorities or sought help from the embassy to reach her family members.

According to Shin Min Daily News, with the assistance of the Chinese Embassy, Xu Na’s relatives were finally located. It is believed that the authorities are now helping to arrange for her family to travel to Singapore to manage the repatriation and body claim process.

Xu Na graduated from the National University of Singapore and was also a PhD student at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

She had studied and worked in several countries. Her father, Xu Baolu (transliteration), was a Singapore citizen, while her mother, Wang Lili (transliteration), was a Singapore permanent resident.

Her mother passed away from lymphoma in 2016 at the age of 66.
