Newlyweds host two-night HDB corridor wedding feast, win praise for their “kampung spirit”

A creative pair of newlyweds set up a buffet along the corridor of their HDB block and held wedding dinners for two consecutive nights to treat relatives, friends and neighbours. After a video of the celebration was uploaded online, many netizens praised them for showing true “kampung spirit”.

The video was posted on Sunday (October 5) on the social media page Singapore Incident. It showed the couple arranging a buffet setup right outside their home along the corridor, with the caption: “Wah, we love this kind of wedding 😍😍😍”

From the video, the buffet tables were seen placed beside the staircase, decorated with many flower arrangements. Several tables and chairs were also arranged along the corridor. Inside the home, long tables and multiple chairs were set up, giving the place a festive atmosphere after some decoration.

Reporters from Shin Min Daily News located the venue based on the video and found out that it was at Block 489B, Tampines Street 45.

However, when they visited the site on Sunday afternoon, the area had already been cleared. The homeowner politely declined to be interviewed upon learning the reason for the visit.

One neighbour, Ms Lim, who lives nearby, said the couple held buffet dinners on Friday (October 3) and Saturday (October 4) and invited guests, including many neighbours.

She shared that the dinners were held in the evening, and the couple did not play loud music, so it did not cause any disturbance.

“As far as I know, the couple already left for their honeymoon yesterday morning,” she added.

After the video was posted online, many netizens praised the setup, saying it gave the celebration a homely atmosphere and allowed the couple to interact more closely with their guests.

A netizen named Mary, who lives on the same floor as the couple, commented that the newlyweds had made proper arrangements over the two days, even preparing fans in case the weather got too hot. She said she was happy to see the family celebrating in such a warm and communal way.

Other netizens also commented that this was a true display of “kampung spirit”, fostering neighbourly ties and community warmth.
