The video caption claimed that the student involved was an exchange student, while the victim was a staff member of the university.
According to these claims, the staff member had first “touched” the student and pulled her hair, leading the student to retaliate with a slap, pulling the staff member’s hair, and kicking her down.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed it received a call for help at 2.10pm that day. The 61-year-old woman was conscious when she was taken to Raffles Hospital.
The Singapore Police Force later confirmed that both the 21-year-old student and the 61-year-old woman are assisting with investigations into offences of voluntarily causing hurt and using criminal force.
When contacted, an SMU spokesperson told Lianhe Zaobao that the school takes this matter very seriously and remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its community.
The university added that it will review the incident after police investigations are completed and handle it based on the findings and school disciplinary procedures.
The injured woman has since been discharged from the hospital.
