A man’s $1,500 bicycle was stolen, and he spent three hours searching from Jurong to Chinese Garden before finally finding it outside Lakeside MRT station. He recorded the entire process and uploaded the video online, where it quickly went viral.
The video was posted by Jarren Lee, who co-founded a social media marketing agency called TheWackyCreatives.
His bicycle was stolen on July 24. After finding it, he uploaded the 1-minute-22-second video to TikTok.
@jarrenfilmsdon’t steal from me ever again
The video has since garnered more than 7 million views and over 950,000 likes at the time of writing.
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Lee said his bicycle was originally parked outside Starbucks at Jurong Lake Gardens. But when he came out of Starbucks, the bike was gone.
“This bicycle is worth $1,500, and I have been using it for many years. It’s like a treasure to me. I also believed that the chances of finding it would be higher if I searched immediately,” he said.
Lee immediately made a police report. But as he was tied up with work, he could only start searching for the bike at 7pm that evening.
He began his search at the bicycle parking areas below HDB blocks around Jurong, following the possible direction the thief might have taken. He even went all the way to the Chinese Garden area.
Eventually, Lee recalled that a Starbucks employee who helped him suggested checking Lakeside MRT station. He went there and, to his relief, found his missing bicycle.
In total, Lee spent about three hours searching.
The video showed him visiting various bicycle parking spots under HDB blocks without success. Just as he was about to give up, he finally spotted his bicycle at the parking area outside the MRT station.
However, his bicycle was locked together with another grey bicycle. He had to call the police for help. When the police arrived, they cut open the lock and allowed Li to reclaim his bicycle.
In another video, Lee revealed that the thief was a secondary school student who did not apologise to him.
He also reminded other cyclists to always lock their bicycles properly. For now, he is using a simple lock as a precaution.
