Residents have complained that foreign workers gather every week at the void deck to drink, then pee in the corner. Despite repeated warnings, the foreign workers show no fear, leaving pee stains everywhere and causing a nightly stench that is hard to bear.
Mr Chen, 67, a self-employed resident at Block 108 Hougang Avenue 1, told Shin Min Daily News that for the past two to three years, foreign workers have often gathered at the void deck for meals, dirtying the surroundings and making it unbearable for others.
He said that every Friday and Saturday night, more than 10 foreign workers would gather downstairs.
“It is understandable that they want to eat, drink and chat after a hard day’s work, I have no problem with that. But some of their behaviour is inappropriate and has seriously affected our lives.”
According to Mr Chen, some workers leave litter behind, making the area messy. What he finds most intolerable is the urination problem. “The corner downstairs is a blind spot not covered by the CCTV cameras, and it has become a ‘hotspot’ for them to relieve themselves.”
He said that every week, one or two workers would pee in the corner, leaving urine stains everywhere, which is nauseating. When he catches them in the act, he would stop them, but most ignore him.
“I warn them not to do it and even take out my phone to record, but they are completely unafraid and even provoke me verbally.”
Another resident, Madam Wang, 60, a housewife, said that she has also seen the gatherings and witnessed drunken behaviour that left a bad impression.
“Besides urinating anywhere, some get drunk and sleep on the ground, or leave trash behind,” she said.
Other residents interviewed agreed that while they do not mind the workers eating and drinking at the void deck, they should maintain basic cleanliness.
