The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is warning that anyone travelling between Singapore and Malaysia during the National Day weekend should expect heavy traffic.
The authority said on Tuesday, August 5, that this traffic is expected at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints from August 8 to August 10.
The ICA authority is asking travellers to check the traffic situation at the land checkpoints before embarking on their journey.
For those who need to travel during this busy time, the ICA suggests considering cross-border bus services to avoid the congestion.
The ICA also has a strong message for all travellers, stating, “We seek travellers’ understanding to cooperate with ICA officers, observe traffic rules and maintain lane discipline.”
They’ve made it clear that they will take action against anyone who doesn’t follow instructions.
During the June school holidays, the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints saw an average of over 525,000 travellers every day. This is a big jump, almost a 10% increase compared to the same time in 2024. A new record was even set on June 20, with 578,000 crossings in a single day. This beat the old record of over 562,000 from last December.
The ICA also noted that, “Car travellers departing during peak periods had to wait up to three hours for immigration clearance, due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.”
