Ka-Soh, a heritage brand that has been famous for its delicious Cantonese-style fish soup for a remarkable 86 years, is set to permanently close its doors.
The last remaining outlet, located on Greenwood Avenue, will stop operating on September 28, 2025. This decision comes as the restaurant has chosen not to renew its lease at that location, marking the end of a culinary journey.
Ka-Soh has seen previous outlets shut down in recent years, where their outlet in Outram closed its doors in June 2022.
The reasons given for that closure included difficulties in finding enough staff, also known as manpower issues, and the increasing costs involved in running the business, which are referred to as rising operational costs.
Before that, their sister eatery, Swee Kee Eating House, located on Amoy Street, also ceased operations in May 2021. The closure of Swee Kee was linked to the widespread impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ka-Soh business is currently managed by its third-generation owners, continuing a tradition of serving their special fish soup recipe. Ka-Soh has received recognition for its quality food, and was previously awarded the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The restaurant has expressed deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all its loyal customers.
Many of these customers have followed the brand for years, even decades, some having been patrons across multiple generations of their own families.
The restaurant stated, “We are deeply grateful to loyal customers who have been with us for decades (and generations) and followed us from Chin Chew Street, then to Amoy and Outram, and finally in Greenwood.”
