Local Actor Chen Xi Ties the Knot, Following Parents Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen’s Footsteps

Chen Xi Marries in Private Ceremony, Shares Joyful News with Public

Local actor Chen Xi, who is the son of well-known Singaporean actors Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen, has officially tied the knot. The news was shared publicly by his parents, marking a new and joyful chapter for this prominent family in the entertainment world. Chen Xi’s marriage continues a kind of family tradition, following in the footsteps of his famous parents, who are a beloved and long-standing celebrity couple in Singapore’s media industry.

The 34-year-old actor shared the good news himself on his Instagram page on Monday, July 14. He posted a series of lovely photos with a Peranakan theme, giving a glimpse into their special day. Chen Xi revealed that he and his Japanese wife, Mimi, decided not to have a big, fancy wedding ceremony in Singapore. Instead, they chose to have a “small and heartfelt” solemnisation, which was attended only by their closest family members. He wrote in his post, “Tied the knot with my Player two,” giving a sweet nod to his new wife. He further explained their decision, saying, “We chose to keep things simple, sincere, and true to us, and what better space than a charming Peranakan shophouse at Little Social which also reflects a small dream Mimi and I share for the future.”

In his heartfelt message, He expressed deep gratitude to his parents, saying, “To my parents, thank you for being my anchor, for your quiet sacrifices, and for showing me what love and family truly look like.” He also gave a special shout-out to his younger sister, actress Chen Yixin, for “stepping up without hesitation” and being the “real MVP (Most valuable player) behind the scenes.” His love and appreciation extended to his wider family too, as he added, “To my aunties, uncles, and my brothers and sisters, thank you for being the roots and rhythm of this day, and for surrounding us with so much love.”

He acknowledged Mimi’s family effort, stating, “To my new Japanese side of the family, thank you for making the long journey here, even with little ones in tow. Your presence truly means the world to us.” Lastly, he thanked his team for their hard work, and dedication, and for creating beautiful memories. He concluded his message from the bottom of his heart, saying, “Here’s to a lifetime of side quests together,” a playful and modern way to describe their future adventures as a married couple.

His mother, Xiang Yun, quickly responded to his Instagram post with a loving comment, offering her blessings to the newlyweds: “May you respect and love each other, walk hand in hand for a lifetime, and be happy and fulfilled. Mommy’s blessing.” Many other fellow actors and well-known personalities like Romeo Tan, Richie Koh, Edwin Goh, and Hong Hui Fang also sent their congratulations to the happy couple.

Chen Xi and Mimi’s love story began in 2020, during the pandemic, when he signed up for an online language exchange app to learn Japanese. As fate would have it, while he was learning Japanese, he also ended up teaching Mimi Singlish! Their relationship faced a challenge in 2023 when Chen Xi went to London for 16 months to pursue his Master’s programme. He initially thought that this might mean the end of his relationship with Mimi. However, she managed to get a visa that allowed her to work in England and found a job there. Their relationship not only survived but blossomed even further during this time. The couple had previously announced their engagement in May 2024.
