More than 1.5 million Singaporeans will receive cash payouts of up to S$850 next month, as part of the Goods and Services Tax Voucher (GSTV) scheme. This government initiative is aimed at helping households cope with daily expenses, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on Monday, July 7.
In a move to extend support to more people, the government has raised the assessable income threshold for the GSTV – Cash component from S$34,000 to S$39,000. According to MOF, this adjustment reflects how “the incomes of lower- and middle-income Singaporeans have improved.” By raising the threshold, the scheme seeks to “maintain the coverage of the scheme,” ensuring continued support even as incomes rise.
Eligible adult Singaporeans with an assessable income of up to S$39,000, and living in homes with an annual value of up to S$21,000, will receive the maximum payout of S$850. Those living in homes with an annual value between S$21,000 and S$31,000 will receive S$450.
In addition to cash payouts, around 690,000 eligible seniors will also receive MediSave top-ups ranging from S$150 to S$450. These GSTV – MediSave contributions aim to ease healthcare costs and provide greater peace of mind for older Singaporeans.
Checking eligibility is simple through the govbenefits website. Those who previously signed up for GSTV – Cash and GSTV – MediSave will receive their payments automatically from August 6. A notification will be sent via SMS or letter once the benefits are credited.
Altogether, the Government will disburse about S$1.5 billion under this GSTV exercise — a clear reflection of its ongoing commitment to help Singaporeans, especially lower- and middle-income households, manage the cost of living.
This comprehensive package, which combines direct cash support with healthcare-related aid, shows a continued focus on supporting Singaporeans in practical and meaningful ways, especially as the economic landscape evolves.
