Redditor exposes Andre Low’s “two-faced” persona, says he preaches empathy in public, rants behind closed doors

Andre Low has since apologised for the ‘inappropriate’ language. However, netizens are not quite convinced, and say that he apologise only because he got caught.

Workers’ Party (WP) candidate Andre Low recently told Singaporeans he stands for a more compassionate and empathetic Singapore.

In his introduction video, he said the keyword for him is “empathy”. On stage at the WP rally on 24 April, he repeated that message, claiming that compassion is what unites the WP team.

Sounds nice on paper.

But a damning post on Reddit recently shows a very different side of the man when no one is watching.

According to the post written by someone who claimed to know him personally, Andre Low once called residents who kept calling him during MPS work “people who can f*** off”.

Along with the post were also several screenshots, allegedly from Andre Low, showing his private messages and unfiltered views on various issues.

He also went on angry rants about public servants, saying people who want to join the civil service to serve society should “not bother” because they will “never get anywhere”. He added, “f*** the gahmen”.

Grab drivers also kena.

In one message, he asked:

“What is the age where if you get retrenched you’re basically f***ed and have to drive Grab?”

Fighter jets that fly for National Day? Called them “stupid” and said nobody cares.

Local journalists were damned.

Local celebrities like Ben Yeo, Pornsak, Mark Lee and Jamie Teo weren’t spared.

And Singapore brands like SecretLab, Prism+, Razer? All kena too.

All these screenshots of messages from Andre Low have been widely circulated online.

Andre Low has since apologised for the messages, acknowledging that the language used was inappropriate and expressing regret for his past remarks. You can read the rest for yourself here.

So now, the question is: Which Andre Low are we getting?

The one on stage saying empathy is his key value? Or the one behind closed doors, who rants about everything from civil servants to Grab drivers to Singapore’s success stories?

To be fair, everyone is entitled to vent in private. But when someone puts on a totally different face in public and says they stand for compassion, voters will naturally wonder: is it real, or just for show?

And for someone who wants to be an MP, telling residents who seek his help and call him repeatedly to “f*** off”? That’s really not cool leh.

As the Reddit post puts it: “Singapore deserves leaders who live the values they preach — not just when the cameras are rolling, but when no one is watching.”

We leave it to voters to decide. But one thing is clear: words like “empathy” and “compassion” shouldn’t be used as slogans if they are not practised in real life.
