Local content creator Simonboy (Simon Khung, 38) has welcomed a baby boy with his wife Chloe Eong (33), after she went through a gruelling 45-hour labour.
The couple, who got married in July last year, shared the good news on Wednesday (April 9) morning. In his social media post, Simonboy introduced their newborn son, affectionately named Sunnyboy, and said both mother and baby are safe.
Frightening moment when baby’s heartbeat disappeared
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Simonboy said they had checked into the hospital on Monday (April 7) at 9am. After nearly two days of waiting, Sunnyboy was finally born on Wednesday at 6am.
He shared that at one point, the situation took a terrifying turn. His wife had been in severe pain from contractions and was trembling non-stop. Then, around 7pm on Tuesday (April 8), just after receiving her epidural injection, the baby’s heartbeat suddenly disappeared from the monitor.
“I pressed the emergency call button, and within moments, four to five medical staff rushed into the delivery room. It was classified as a ‘Code Red’ situation. I was really frightened,” he said.
He added that he stood quietly as he watched the medical team working around his wife. All he could do was pray. After about five minutes, a faint heartbeat finally appeared on the monitor. Ten minutes later, the situation stabilised and they saw a clear heartbeat pattern again.
“I couldn’t hold back my tears. I really wouldn’t have been able to go through the pain of losing another child.”
Remembering the child he lost
In an Instagram Story, Simonboy wrote: “Sunny has a big brother and a sister. They will always be with him.”
This is in reference to his late daughter Megan Khung, who died at age four after being abused and killed by her biological mother and the mother’s boyfriend.
Simonboy has had two previous marriages and also has another son.
He said the birth of Sunnyboy has strengthened his determination to be a good father, and he will always remember his daughter who passed away.
Hopes to try for a daughter next
When asked about having more children, Simonboy shared that he and his wife had already agreed they would like to have two kids.
He joked that having a daughter next would complete the Chinese character “好” (which combines “女” and “子” – girl and boy – to mean “good”). But for now, they plan to take a one-year break before trying again.
He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported and encouraged him during this journey, saying that those kind words meant a lot to him.
