Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said the new tariffs announced by the U.S. not only affect the global economy but also shake the entire international system. That’s why Singaporeans must be ready to face the challenges ahead. He also added that during this kind of tough period, we must all the more appreciate what we already have.
In a video released on Apr 4, PM Wong said the era of global stability is not coming back anytime soon.
In his 5-minute video, he pointed out that as a small, open economy, Singapore is especially exposed to global tensions and uncertainty. The weakening of global institutions and rising “every country for itself” attitudes mean countries are now using pressure (even force!!) to get what they want.
But PM Wong also say Singapore still has what it takes to pull through. We have strong reserves, social unity, and determination. We can do it one.
And let’s be real here ah. With the world entering a more chaotic phase (hello “胖老鸭 Fatty Trump 2.0” comeback?), this is exactly when Singapore needs a stable and decisive government. Not one that flip-flops or just waits to see how things play out. We don’t have time to waste on leaders who like to “study first”, “let’s see how”, or “we take no position for now”.
In uncertain times, Singapore needs leaders who dare to make decisions and not those who play safe until it’s too late.
So hor, voters better think twice before supporting parties that like to keep quiet when things get tough. Because the next GE, it’s not just about local issues. It’s about who can steer Singapore safely through all this global drama.
You can whine and say this is Gahmen trying to fearmonger you lah. Then you continue to stay in your delulu world if that is the only solulu for you. Just don’t come and KPKB when shit hits the fan ah.
When speaking at Marsiling–Yew Tee Town Council’s 2025–2030 development plan launch on Saturday (Apr 5), PM Wong also said:
“China already announce counter-tariffs, and other countries may also follow. This could turn into a full-blown trade war, so we need to be prepared.”
He reminded Singaporeans to treasure three important things:
-
A caring and respectful society, no matter race, language or religion
-
A fair system where everyone got a chance to chase dreams
-
The unity that helps Singapore move forward no matter what
New Developments Coming to Marsiling–Yew Tee
As the MP for Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC, PM Wong shared some exciting updates. He said the team’s goal is to continue building a good home for all, from young couples to seniors.
Over the next five years, residents can look forward to these:
-
Heart of Yew Tee, a new integrated development (ready by 2027)
-
New Marsiling CC and upgraded Fuchun CC
-
New or improved parks like Starmount Park, Woodleigh Park, and Acadia Park
The Heart of Yew Tee project, which started in 2023, is Singapore’s second “vertical kampung”. It will include senior-friendly flats, a community club, a polyclinic, shops, and a hawker centre, all in one place. Swee oh!
Also, by 2035, two new MRT stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line will open in this GRC — one near Yew Tee Village, and one near Sungei Kadut.
PM Wong said that even though some projects need a longer time to complete, in the long run, they will totally transform the area.
GRC Stays the Same But Might See a Contest
Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC was formed in 2015 and will remain unchanged in the next General Election. As of February this year, there are 119,352 voters in the GRC.
The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) has already said they plan to contest here again — so this area confirm got action come GE time.
