After announcing in February that it would leave the opposition alliance and contest Tampines GRC independently, the People’s Power Party (PPP) has now revealed plans to also contest Ang Mo Kio GRC, a five-member constituency currently helmed by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
On Saturday (April 5), PPP Secretary-General Goh Meng Seng led his team on a walkabout at Chong Boon Market and Food Centre in Ang Mo Kio, where he interacted with residents and officially launched the party’s election manifesto.
PPP’s campaign slogan is Make Singaporeans Blur Again, oh I mean “Make Singapore Home Again”, and their manifesto outlined proposals to address various policy issues, with a focus on population and governance.

During an interview, Goh told reporters that the party’s main focus is on population policy and political governance.
“Singapore’s population grew from over 4 million in 2004 to 6 million, a 50% increase. This rapid growth has affected people’s quality of life, with rising prices, job insecurity, housing shortages, and falling birth rates,” he said.
He added that foreign talent can never truly feel a sense of belonging to Singapore, and the country’s population strategy needs to be rethought.
“I’m committed to running in Ang Mo Kio to fight for the rights of Singaporeans born and raised here,” Goh declared.
Ang Mo Kio GRC, established in 1991, has long been a PAP stronghold. In the 2020 General Election, Lee Hsien Loong’s team defeated the Reform Party with a 71.91% vote share.
When asked if he was confident about contesting in Ang Mo Kio, Goh responded, “Based on my experience walking the ground and speaking to residents, I believe we have a chance.”
He added, “You can’t compare this election to the last. Back then, Lee Hsien Loong was still the Prime Minister, and many Singaporeans were being very rational, especially during COVID. But now that he’s stepping down, things will be different.”
Meanwhile, PPP treasurer William Lim has confirmed he will lead the team in Ang Mo Kio. Goh also introduced new faces joining the party, including:
-
Thaddeus Thomas (43), a former member of the Reform Party
-
Samuel Lee (33), an IT professional
-
Heng Zheng Dao (24), a horticulturist
The party’s youngest new face said he joined the opposition “at such a young age” to push for transparency and accountability in the government.

“We need to have someone voice out for the people (and) who understand the (common man’s) life and their pains,” he said, citing his experience in taking on various part-time jobs since young.
Apart from Ang Mo Kio, the PPP has previously said it intends to contest new single seats in Jalan Kayu and Tampines Changkat and Tampines GRC.
