Two men were involved in a physical fight at a food court in Choa Chu Kang after an alleged alcohol-related dispute, with one of them later taken to the hospital.
The incident happened at about 8:10pm on Dec 19 at Kopitiam Corner, a food court located at Sunshine Place.
Videos filmed by members of the public showed a man wearing a red shirt and another man in a black vest exchanging blows inside the food court. Even after both men fell to the ground, they continued punching and grappling with each other. Nearby diners, worried about being affected, were seen picking up their food and moving away from the area.
The man in red appeared visibly flushed. A witness told STOMP that both men seemed to have consumed a significant amount of alcohol.
Man in orange steps in to break up the fight
During the scuffle, a man wearing an orange top stepped forward to intervene. He restrained the man in red in an attempt to separate the two, while another man in black, believed to be a food court staff member, was also seen trying to stop the fight.
When Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the food court on Monday morning (Dec 22), stallholders declined to comment on the incident.
However, an employee who did not wish to be named said that the group appeared to have been drinking earlier, and the fight broke out after a disagreement.
The employee added that the food court manager immediately called the police, but he was unsure of what happened after that. He said no other individuals were involved, and there was no damage to items in the food court. By the time police arrived, the disturbance had already ended. The man in the black vest was standing outside the food court and even waved when he saw the officers, while the whereabouts of the man in red were unknown.
When contacted, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that a report had been lodged. A spokesperson said a 48-year-old man was conscious when taken to the hospital and is assisting with investigations. The case remains under investigation.
