Man makes police report after loan sharks put up poster accusing him of cheating money and sex

A man in Yishun has been repeatedly harassed by loan sharks, who went as far as putting up a large poster at his block accusing him of “cheating money and sex”, while openly displaying his address and phone number.

The poster appeared last Thursday (November 20) at the void deck of Block 476B Yishun Street 44. Residents said it caught their attention immediately because it looked strange and alarming.

Photos taken by the public showed an image of the “God of Wealth” on the poster, along with a large photo of the man and his address.

The poster also claimed that people could “go upstairs to ask about joining a meditation centre”. Another sheet of paper accused the man of cheating money and sex, and even listed the names and phone numbers of both the man and an “assistant”.

When reporters from Shin Min Daily News visited the location, the poster had already been removed. However, residents confirmed they had seen it earlier. Reporters later managed to find the man featured in the poster, Mr Huang, 42, a delivery driver.

Mr Huang said he is not the “God of Wealth” or any “master” and explained that the poster was part of the harassment from loan sharks.

He shared that he borrowed $8,000 from loan sharks earlier this year and had already repaid the full amount. But they insisted he owed them an additional more than $10,000.

“I already repaid what I owed. This is a bottomless pit I cannot keep filling, so they started harassing me,” he said.

Mr Huang added that his father saw the poster and notified him. After finishing work, he went to make a police report. Officers also helped remove the poster.

“The loan sharks also sent me harassing messages that night, threatening that if I didn’t pay, they would use all kinds of methods to make my life miserable,” he said.

This was not the first time he had faced such tactics. In the past, loan sharks sent funeral wreaths to his home. “Several weeks ago, the loan sharks also sent a few bags of cement and piled them at my door, causing me great distress,” he said.

The repeated harassment has taken a toll on his family.

“I really cannot do anything more. I just hope the trouble doesn’t affect my family. I hope the loan sharks will stop the harassment,” he said.

Police confirmed that a report was lodged and said investigations are ongoing.
