Woman sings and dances on canteen table at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, school confirms performance was not authorised

A woman was caught on video singing and dancing on a canteen table at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, sparking mixed reactions online. The school later clarified that the performance was not authorised and that the woman is not a student.

The incident was shared on Facebook page The SG Daily on October 30.

In the video, a young woman wearing a pink crop top and a short skirt was seen holding a microphone while performing at the school’s canteen.

She walked along the low wall like it was a runway, crouched in front of a male diner and sang directly to him, before standing up to dance and twist her hips. The man appeared surprised, while other diners laughed and took out their phones to record the scene.

Some viewers identified the location as Ngee Ann Polytechnic and recognised the woman as 20-year-old New Zealand singer Kira Peace.

The video drew mixed reactions online. Some questioned whether Kira had permission to perform and criticised her for standing on tables with her shoes on, calling it unhygienic. Others felt the performance brought some fun and excitement to the otherwise ordinary school day.

In response to media queries, Ngee Ann Polytechnic said it was aware of the incident. “The performance took place on August 7 this year, and the woman in the video was not a student. Her performance was not authorised,” a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that by the time security officers arrived at the canteen, the woman had already left the area.
