Four People Hospitalised After PMD Fire Breaks Out at Yishun Block

PMD Fire at Yishun Block Forces 40 Residents to Evacuate

A fire broke out in the early hours of November 5 at Block 475B Yishun Street 44, leading to the evacuation of about 40 residents. Four people were taken to Singapore General Hospital after inhaling smoke.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at around 2:25 am and managed to extinguish it upon arrival. Preliminary findings showed that the fire started from a personal mobility device (PMD) in the living room of a third-floor unit.

SCDF reminded the public not to buy or use non-original batteries for their PMDs, and to avoid charging them overnight or for long hours, as it can be very dangerous.

Nee Soon GRC MP Syed Harun Alhabsyi shared about the incident in a Facebook post, saying, “A fire broke out at Melody Spring. The response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force was swift, and neighbours helped one another during the evacuation.”

He added that all residents from the affected unit have been safely discharged from the hospital. “I spoke with the family and reassured them that our Grassroot Leaders, as well as colleagues from the Housing & Development Board and Nee Soon Town Council, will do their best to support them during this difficult time.”

Dr Syed Harun also reminded residents to stay alert and prepared. “A few weeks ago, we conducted our Emergency Preparedness Exercise in this same neighbourhood. This incident is a strong reminder for all of us to stay vigilant, learn first responder skills, and continue looking out for one another,” he said.
