Malaysian police have arrested popular singer Namewee for further investigation, as he was the last person to have contact with the late “nursing goddess” Hsieh Yu-hsin before her death.
According to China Press, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest on November 4, stressing that it was a necessary action carried out according to standard operating procedures. He said investigators have already taken statements from multiple people, including hotel staff linked to the case.
Fadil added that what was initially considered an accidental death has now been reclassified as a murder case, marking a major turning point in the investigation.
Police revealed that the incident occurred on October 22 at about 1:40 pm, inside a five-star luxury hotel room in downtown Kuala Lumpur. The 31-year-old Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was in Malaysia for work, was found dead in the room.
Hsieh’s close friend and agent, Chris, earlier told reporters that a preliminary hospital report cited heart attack as the cause of death.
However, her family questioned the accuracy of that finding, insisting that Hsieh had been healthy and expressing shock and disbelief over the explanation.
China Press also reported that Namewee was present at the scene when the incident occurred. Police later found nine blue pills, weighing 5.12 grams, suspected to contain Ecstasy (MDMA), on him. Urine tests showed positive results for several drugs, including amphetamine, ketamine, cannabis, and methamphetamine.
Following these findings, police detained Namewee for two more days and brought him to court on October 24. Facing charges of drug possession and abuse, Namewee pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of RM8,000. The case is set for its next hearing on December 18.
