A motorcyclist was flung onto the roof of a taxi after a rear-end collision along Bendemeer Road on Wednesday (October 29). Despite being injured, he reportedly walked about 1.5km to Jalan Besar, and for reasons unknown, stripped naked and ran along the road, shocking passers-by.
The accident happened around 11am. According to Shin Min Daily News, readers reported seeing a naked man outside a shop in the Jalan Besar area. The man appeared to be injured, and there were bloodstains on the ground both inside and outside the shop. Police cars and an ambulance were also seen at the scene.
A reader who declined to be named told the paper:
“I passed by around noon and saw a man completely naked, standing near the shop entrance with his back facing me. Later, another man from the shop led him inside, probably to help him.”
When reporters arrived, the man was no longer at the scene. Several shop workers were seen cleaning bloodstains off the floor, but refused to speak to the media.
Further checks by reporters revealed that the shop at Jalan Besar was not where the accident happened. The man is believed to have been injured in a crash about 1.5km away at Bendemeer Road, and walked for around 20 minutes before reaching Jalan Besar.
At the crash site, reporters found the damaged taxi still parked there. The taxi driver involved in the accident recounted that he had been ferrying a female passenger when the motorcycle crashed into the back of his vehicle, flinging the rider onto the roof.
“I didn’t dare to brake immediately because I was afraid he would fall off. I slowed down before stopping the car. But before I could even say anything, he climbed down from the roof and crossed the road,” said the 65-year-old taxi driver.
He described the rider as a Chinese man wearing a red shirt and dark pants.
“He looked dazed and kept pacing up and down the opposite side of the road, behaving strangely. Then he suddenly disappeared. I called the police and waited for them to take my statement. When the ambulance arrived, they couldn’t find him. Later, an uncle told me he had followed the man all the way to Jalan Besar and informed the police and paramedics.”
“I’ve been driving for 40 years, more than 20 of those as a taxi driver, and this is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen,” he added.
The Singapore Police Force confirmed that the accident involved a motorcycle and a taxi. The 44-year-old motorcyclist was conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and is assisting with police investigations.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force also confirmed that the injured man was sent to the hospital.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the case is not related to drugs or so-called “zombie vapes”. The cause of the man’s dazed and erratic behaviour is still being investigated.
