Veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui, who is a Singapore permanent resident and owns a home here, has reportedly been hospitalised in Hong Kong and is in critical condition.
According to Hong Kong media outlet Sing Tao Headline, close to 20 celebrity friends were spotted visiting him at the hospital. Among them were Maria Luisa Leitao, Michael Miu and his wife Jamie Chik, Edwin Siu and Priscilla Wong, Raymond Wong and his wife Kaka Mok, as well as actors Bosco Wong, Dayo Wong, Au Yeung Tsan Wah, and Mak Cheung Ching.
TVB producers Jazz Boon and Lam Chi Wah, who have worked with Hui on popular dramas such as To Get Unstuck in Time (2004) and You’re Hired (2009), were also seen arriving. The celebrities reportedly appeared solemn and declined to comment when approached by the media.
Hui has been in the entertainment industry for over five decades, earning the nickname “Benz” in his early years for driving a Mercedes-Benz to work. He became well-known for his role as Foon Hei Gor (Brother Foon Hei), an undercover cop-turned-crime boss in the hit TVB series Line Walker (2014–2020).
In recent years, Hui reduced his acting workload and moved to Singapore with his family to enjoy a semi-retired life. He and his wife, Angeli Lung, have one daughter, Charmaine Hui, who got married to Singaporean Shane Sim, reportedly a banker.
The couple held wedding celebrations in Hong Kong in December 2023 and in Singapore in January 2024.
Hui had been in the spotlight earlier this year when he was seen visiting his old home in Guangzhou with his daughter and appeared to be short of breath while walking on flat ground, sparking public concern about his health.
His last public appearance was during the Mid-Autumn Festival on October 6, when he had dinner with friends. A photo posted by his daughter on Instagram Stories showed him looking relaxed and cheerful.
