Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) has issued a second statement addressing allegations made by a woman who claimed she was mistreated while being warded at the hospital.
A recap of what happened earlier
On October 21, a woman named Olivia Tang shared on Facebook that she had lodged a police report against TTSH, alleging she was forcibly restrained and injected against her will while under care at the hospital on October 10, 2025.
In her post, Olivia said she was held down by around 10 personnel, including hospital staff and AETOS officers, and injected with an unknown drug after a doctor invoked the Mental Health Act, deeming her of unsound mind. She said she was then transferred to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), where she was assessed, found of sound mind, and discharged the same day.
Olivia described her experience as “painful and humiliating,” and said she wanted to share her story “so no one else has to endure the same.”
Following her post, TTSH responded on October 22, saying it took the allegations “seriously” but explained that its clinical team had acted “swiftly and responsibly” out of genuine concern for the patient’s safety.
The hospital also said such incidents could be misunderstood when taken out of context, and that it would not tolerate false accusations or harassment towards its staff.
TTSH issues follow-up statement
In a follow-up post on October 23, TTSH said it wanted to “add to its earlier statement,” clarifying that the staff identified in Olivia’s police report was not actually involved in the incident.
The hospital emphasised that its clinical team had acted according to medical protocols and professional duty to “protect the patient from further harm and safeguard the well-being of staff and patients.” It said the hospital stands by the decision made by its clinical teams.
TTSH added that while it recognises healthcare decisions in urgent and complex situations can be distressing, it remains committed to supporting the patient and her family “through proper channels.”
The hospital also cautioned that social media is an inappropriate platform for discussing medically sensitive information, and urged that such matters be raised through official hospital feedback channels or relevant authorities for a proper review.
TTSH concluded by reaffirming its support for its healthcare professionals, saying they “serve with integrity and compassion every day” and deserve to work without fear of public harassment based on incomplete or incorrect information.
