Sembawang noise dispute sparks conflict among neighbours, three residents seek help from MP

A noise dispute among neighbours in a Sembawang HDB block escalated into a heated argument, prompting police intervention and leading three residents to seek help from their Member of Parliament (MP).

Mr Pan, 45, who has lived at Block 470 Sembawang Drive for over 10 years, told Shin Min Daily News that his neighbour, Mr Wang, 36, moved in about two to three years ago and has since caused frequent noise disturbances.

According to Mr Pan, Mr Wang would often bang on walls or slam doors loudly, disrupting his family’s peace. In a video provided by Mr Pan, loud door-slamming sounds could be clearly heard.

Mr Pan said that on October 12, around 5 pm, he had just returned home from work when the neighbour’s loud door slam startled him again. He stepped out to confront the neighbour, only for the door to be slammed shut once more.

“I stood at the door and told him we residents have had enough. He asked me what he did wrong and said, ‘Can’t I move my table?’” said Mr Pan.

Later, while Mr Pan was downstairs to cool off, he received a call from his child saying the neighbour was outside their door.

“I rushed back home, and another resident, Mr Shahil, came up to check on us. Mr Wang then accused Shahil of using a drill at night and disturbing his sleep. The situation got tense and almost turned into a fight,” Mr Pan said.

Mr Pan called the police, who arrived to mediate. Since then, the noise has reportedly stopped.

Mr Shahil, 27, said he only went upstairs after hearing the argument but ended up getting dragged into the dispute.

Another resident, Ms Tan, told Shin Min Daily News that she too had conflicts with Mr Wang and had recently joined Mr Pan and Mr Shahil in seeking help from their constituency’s MP.

PAP Naval Base Branch: Following up with relevant agencies

The People’s Action Party (PAP) Naval Base branch responded to Shin Min Daily News, saying they are aware of the matter and are currently working with relevant agencies to help mediate the noise dispute among the neighbours.
