A 36-year-old Indonesian domestic helper has been sentenced to one week in jail after lying to the police that her married male employer had raped her, even though the two had consensual sex multiple times.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the woman was found guilty of giving false information to a public servant, which led to the 40-year-old Singapore permanent resident employer being investigated. To protect his identity, the court has ordered that no details that could reveal who he is be published.
According to court documents, the domestic helper started working for the family in May 2023. Her duties included taking care of her employer’s one-month-old baby.
In September last year, the domestic helper and her employer began a sexual relationship. They had oral sex or intercourse at least four times, with their last encounter happening on February 24 this year.
However, the next day, on February 25, the domestic helper lodged a police report claiming that her employer had raped her.
Police officers went to Ubi Avenue 1 to look for her. When they found her, she alleged that her employer had forced himself on her multiple times and even switched off the home’s CCTV cameras before doing so.
She was then taken to Changi General Hospital for a medical examination. At around 4pm, she told officers that her employer had removed her shorts and underwear without her consent and raped her the day before.
She also claimed that he had raped her two more times previously, but she did not report the matter earlier because she was afraid of losing her job and being sent back home.
Later that evening, during another interview with police through an interpreter, she repeated her allegations and said that between September last year and February 24, her employer had forced her into sexual acts four times. She added that after each incident, he gave her between $50 and $100 as “pocket money”, but insisted she did not agree to the acts.
However, by 11pm that same night, she confessed that she had made up the entire story.
