A female worker’s fingers were accidentally caught in a sugarcane machine. The stall owner said she had visited the injured worker in the hospital and that the worker’s condition is now stable, though she remains in the hospital for observation.
According to a Shin Min Daily News report on Saturday (Oct 11), the incident happened on Friday evening (Oct 10) at the market and hawker centre at Block 448 Clementi Avenue 3.
The female worker at a juice stall was believed to have had her glove caught in the sugarcane machine, causing her right index, middle, and ring fingers to be pulled into it.
An eyewitness, Mr Li, 69, said the worker was wearing gloves at the time and likely had her fingers drawn into the machine during work, followed by a scream of pain.
According to Shin Min Daily News, when reporters visited the scene again on Sunday morning at around 9am, the juice stall was open as usual. The female stall owner was seen working alone, preparing to open for business.
She declined to be named but said she had visited the injured worker in the hospital. “She’s okay now, her condition is stable, but she hasn’t been discharged yet,” she shared.
When asked if the sugarcane machine had been replaced, the stall owner replied briefly, “It’s the same machine,” without further explanation.

Other hawkers nearby said the police had cordoned off about four stalls after the accident. Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and rescue experts were called in, taking around two hours to free the trapped worker.
During the rescue, paramedics administered pain relief to the worker before she was sent to the National University Hospital for treatment.
