Apartment suspected of turning into brothel, landlord finds woman staying there instead of tenant who signed lease

An apartment that was rented out was suspected of being turned into a brothel.

After receiving complaints from neighbours and even being notified by the police, the landlord quickly asked his property agent, Mr Zheng (39), to check. To his shock, they found a woman living inside who was not the one who signed the lease, and there were even condoms left in a corner of the unit.

Mr Zheng later uploaded a two-minute ten-second video on TikTok, saying he had helped the landlord handle the problem. He explained that the unit was originally rented to a local man in his forties or fifties, with all the information looking normal at first.

When contacted by Shin Min Daily News, Mr Zheng shared that the landlord had rented out a one-bedroom, one living room apartment under a one-year lease. The tenant who signed the contract was a local man in his forties or fifties, and the documents he provided seemed fine.

But later, the landlord received complaints from neighbours and also got a notice from the police, saying that, in fact, a woman was living inside the unit.

So Mr Zheng stepped in to help the landlord evict the tenant.

He said, “When I went to inspect the unit, all the personal belongings had already been removed. But in the corners of the unit, there were still condoms, hair ties, tissues, and in the drawers, there was even a large amount of unopened tissues.”

Based on these observations, Mr Zheng suspected that the woman living inside might have been engaging in prostitution.

He also reminded landlords that to prevent such incidents, the most important thing is to build good relationships with neighbours. “Once neighbours notice something unusual in the unit, they can quickly inform the landlord. The tenant’s documents can look very complete, sometimes making it difficult to detect anything unusual.”

Tenant moved out the next day after eviction notice, even gave up deposit

After being told to move out the next day, the tenant immediately agreed, and what was even more suspicious was that he even gave up his security deposit.

Mr Zheng said, “What was suspicious is that when I contacted the tenant who signed the lease and told him he must move out the next day, he agreed immediately. His response felt very experienced. There was no argument at all, and he moved out the next day. He even gave up the deposit, only leaving the keys in the unit.”

He added that usually, when tenants are told to move out suddenly, their first reaction is to argue. “But this tenant’s attitude was very strange.”
